Pitesti factory in Romania which produces most of Dacia cars is overcrowded, Renault wanted to open a new factory in order to build new low cost models such as the Dacia Lodgy. They decided to open it in Morocco and more precisely in Tangier. Indeed, moroccan government wants to develop its industry in order to create jobs and to boost the economy which today depends on water fall and tourist arrivals. The country offers a low cost labor and has developed its infrastructures in order to respond to the demand and to attract investors.
Renault decided to install its huge factory in Melloussa in the suburb of Tangier, 26 kilometers away from the biggest port of Africa, Tanger Med. The new factory has a capacity of 400,000 cars that will be assembled and then transported to the port by railway or highway, 10% of it is destinated to the local market that includes Middle East and Africa.
